The Virginia Commonwealth University has created several online exhibits. Of particular interest are:
- Separate But Not Equal: Race, Education, and Prince Edward County, Virginia, which explores the history of the Prince Edward County, Virginia, school segregation issues of the 1950s and 1960s.
- Through the Lens of Time: Images of African Americans from the Cook Collection. It contains 200 nineteenth and early twentieth century images of African Americans.
- Rarely Seen Richmond, which has more than 600 postcard images of Richmond with most dating from 1900-1930.

"The Ground Beneath Our Feet" is a series of four documentary films and the accompanying Web sites that explore the history of Virginia since the Civil War. The Web sites each contain of wealth of images covering this time period. Much of the information is too difficult for elementary school students, but they may be interested in the photographs.
